Creating Engaging Posts

A great post has three parts: a hook that stops the scroll, a caption that adds value, and a few smart hashtags.

What you will learn

  • Write a scroll-stopping hook
  • Structure a caption with a call to action
  • Use hashtags the right way

Why most posts get ignored

People scroll fast. Your post has about one second to catch the eye. If the first line is boring, they keep scrolling. So the most important part of any post is the hook — the very first line.

The three parts of a strong post

  1. Hook — the first line. Make people curious or promise value.
  2. Caption body — tell a short story, give a tip, or describe the offer.
  3. Call to action (CTA = call to action) — tell them exactly what to do next, e.g. DM us (DM = direct message, a private message on the app) or tap the link.

A weak post vs a strong post

A full worked example

Here is a complete Instagram caption for our bakery, built from the three parts:

A real Instagram caption: hook + body + CTA + hashtags
POV: it is 9pm and a chocolate craving hits hard.

Our fudgy Belgian chocolate cake is baked fresh every
morning in Lucknow — soft, rich, and not too sweet.
Perfect for birthdays or a quiet treat just for you.

Order for tomorrow: DM us the word CAKE and your area.

#LucknowCakes #ChocolateCake #LucknowFoodie
#FreshlyBaked #CakeLovers #LucknowBakery

Note: See the three parts at work: line 1 is the HOOK (it stops the scroll with a relatable moment), the middle is the BODY (it describes the cake and who it is for), and DM us the word CAKE is the CALL TO ACTION. The hashtags at the end help new people discover the post.

Hashtags, the easy way

  • Use 5-10 relevant hashtags, not 30 random ones.
  • Mix broad (#ChocolateCake) with local/niche (#LucknowCakes).
  • Skip giant tags like #love — your post drowns in millions of others.

Tip: A simple hook formula: start with POV: (POV = point of view — you invite the viewer to imagine they are in the scene), a question, or a bold claim. Example: The one mistake people make when storing cake in summer. Curiosity makes people stop.

Watch out: Do not stuff 30 unrelated hashtags hoping for magic. It looks spammy and can hurt your reach. A few focused tags beat a giant pile.

Q. Which line is the strongest HOOK for a bakery Reel?

Answer: A hook should stop the scroll with curiosity or a relatable moment. The POV line paints a feeling instantly; the others are flat or are not hooks at all.

✍️ Practice

  1. Write a hook, body and CTA for a Lucknow gym promoting a free trial class.
  2. List 6 focused hashtags for that gym (mix broad and local).

🏠 Homework

  1. Write 3 complete posts (hook + body + CTA + hashtags) for one business, each using a different content pillar.
